According to the Encarta dictionary, the definition of insourcing is the administration of an ancillary business activity using resources within a company. In plain English, insourcing is the provision of nontechnical assistance or support to the core workers in an industry or profession. The old school way of business operations is insourcing. Positions are created for every task, from focal to back office. Accounting, printing services, and marketing are all closely held. The problem with the insourcing management style is that it wastes valuable resources of both time and money. In order to cover all the back office tasks like services printing, someone has to be hired to manage the printing services department, equipment needs to be bought and maintained, staff needs to be hired to operate the equipment, and space must be provided for the department.
